About the creation of this CD
This is not a demo disk or just another disk with free software. We created this CD, because we are using these programs every day, we are convinced in their qualities and would like them to reach each one of you too. For creating the CD and the website representing it are being used only free and open source software. Many of these programs are included in the CD:
- Firefox - used for gathering information about the programs
- Thunderbird - for electronic correspondence
- nVU - for writing the HTML texts
- Inkscape - for logo creation
- GIMP - for image processing
- Lazarus - for producing some additional programs
- Dev-C++ - for precompilation of SiteMaker, to adjust it according to our needs
- 7-zip - for file archiver
Other free programs and resources we had used are listed below. You could find them on the Internet:
- FileZilla - for publishing the website through FTP
- The Open CD - for the idea and for the disktree technology (browser for exploring the contents of the CD). We used it as a base and an example how to build our CD.
- Wikipedia - for extra information on some of the exposed themes
- Wikimedia Commons - for all images used for the website and the CD browser
- oswd.org - for website design (created on the basis of the design Gila Two of haran)
- InnoSetup - for creating the automatic installer of all programs
- NSIS - for changing the installer of Dev-C++, so that it could be installed automatically
All names, logos, registered products and trademarks mentioned on the CD and on the website belong to their respective owners. The descriptions of the programs on the CD and the website are based on those in The Open CD, as well as on the descriptions of the programs in their websites and in Wikipedia. The rest of texts are written by me and could be used and distributed according to the GNU FDL license (the full text of the licence is here).
We at svoboden.net would like to thank authors of these programs because they have created them and published them under free licences, giving in this manner the possibility for others to learn from them and to develop them. We are thankful also to those, who have contributed to the development and improvement of these programs.
This CD is an expression of our thankfulness to all of them...
